The last year has definitely been stressful and challenging! It’s time to focus on the positives and enjoy the time we have with those we love!

It doesn’t matter if you are looking for gift ideas for your significant other or for your favorite couple in your life (parents, siblings, friends, etc…), you want to find the perfect gift!

Here are some great gift ideas for couples!

1-Games

One fun way to spend time with your significant other is playing games! This may not be the most common activity at the present time, but it still is a lot of fun. It’s a great way to spend time together without electronics. No TV to watch or cell phones to be distracted by! Just one-on-one time with your partner!

It’s time to go old school and go back to those board games and card games!

2-Journal Together

This may sound like an odd activity to do with your partner, but it’s such a great idea!

You can brainstorm about future plans or recap the best things about your day or week! One of my favorite ways to journal is doing a positivity journal! This is simply writing down a few good things about your day or week every few days!

The great thing about this type of journaling is that it focuses on the positives…and only the positives! Some days it’s difficult to think about anything positive. However, if this is a routine you do together then it becomes the norm to focus on the positives in life! Plus, on those not-so-good days, it’s an easy way to remember the positives–simply go back and read what you wrote!

This one focuses on the future! I love the idea of planning ahead and setting goals that you both want to reach together!

I also really like the question of the day idea to prompt you with various topics to discuss and think about!

Plus, I actually created my own positivity journal because I couldn’t find one that did 100% of what I wanted for my patients (I’m a clinical psychologist). This has some of what the above two books have to offer, plus a little more!

3-Communicate More

Even though we spend lots of time with our partners, sometimes it’s difficult to have real conversations about important topics!

Just like journaling, here are more ideas to get you talking with your partner!

In this crazy, busy world and in our hectic lives, it is often difficult to take the time to focus on focus on those that we love. This is especially difficult when you and your spouse have children. The children tend to need more (constantly need more) than your spouse, so they get the attention.

These types of ideas help you maintain and improve communication with your partner! Communication is such an important and often overlooked part of a relationship. We need to keep communication open throughout our relationships, especially with our spouses, because we want to still have a relationship with them once the kids are out of the house!

4-Go on a date (or more than one)!

Again…one of those things that tend to get overlooked–dating!

Yes, date your partner!

Your partner is the only family member you get to pick. You spend time with them, get to know them, and decide they are your special person. However, after a time, we spend less one-on-one time together. Life gets busy. Jobs are demanding. Kids come and go.

However, especially when life is busy, we need to take the time to spend time with our significan other! You need get out of the house and spend time doing things you enjoy with your partner (and things your partner enjoys too)!

5-Enjoy a Date Night at Home

I know I just said to get out of the house for date nights, but date nights at home are just as important!

When our kids were young, my husband and I didn’t have much time to get out and go on dates. It was the second marriage for both of us and we had seven kids (yes…seven) between the two of us. Very few people are brave enough to babysit seven kids so we can eat at a restaurant! Because of this, we improvised!

One of our favorite things was my husband running to Dairy Queen to get us blizzards while I put the kids to bed. We didn’t have a lot of money then and there were nine of us, so ice cream out with the kids was no frequent, and when we did go they had to have a “blizzard buddy” to split a Blizzard with! Anyway….these little, simple time together of sneaking ice cream on the couch (food wasn’t allowed out of the kitchen) and after the kids were in bed was a huge treat for us!

There are endless ways to have fun at home with your partner!

Have some romance!

Get creative!

Or just snuggle on the couch!

6-Plan (and take) a Trip

For me, travel is my biggest stress relief! It allows me to get away from the normaly, daily tasks of life and just enjoy life.

I also enjoy the planning process! I love figuring out where to go, discovering what there is to do there, and planning what we want to do and when we want to do it!

Some of the best quality time I’ve had with my husband (and with my family in general), is on the various trips we have taken! We done day trips to places like Nashville to hit some fun restaurants, we have taken weekend trips to places like Gatlinburg, and longer vacations on cruises or to Disney World! We get to spend time together doing fun activities and this is an amazing bonding experience that creates lasting memories!

My husband and I enjoy Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN the most for couples’ time together….so far!

  1. These are great ideas! My husband and I definitely spent more time together than we did prior to COVID. We adjusted to being homebound. And we found things to do together that we both enjoy. We took day long road trips and have a much bigger trip planned for this year, to Tennessee.

  2. All of these are excellent ideas. When we need to bond, we grab a deck of cards and play a friendly game of Skip-bo. It helps us unwind and enjoy each other’s company.

    1. I agree completely! That’s one of my favorite things about traveling–getting away from the daily stress!

  3. Board games ruled in our family! My daughters and I have discovered gameboardarena.com, which has a lot of fun games that we can play together, remotely. We vido chat via FB messenger in one window, and play in another. It’s so cool to be playing together from 3 different continents!

  4. I am so looking forward to bringing back ‘date night’. Like everyone else, I miss going out to dinner, movies, parties, etc.

  5. So many fun and easy ideas. Its so important to have some kind of date night, even if its just grabbing a coffee or going for a walk.

  6. All great ideas! I loved the games, and the journaling (especially the bucket list – curious to what are really are all our goals!)

    1. I love it too, especially journaling about what we want to do in the future and what we have enjoyed in the past!
