The Five Best Parenting Hacks for Less-Stressed Parenting

As parents, we tend to be stressed! We are juggling home, work, family, kids, finances, and much, much more! We have an endless to-do list and tend to feel more and more overwhelmed while feeling like we are getting less and less done each day!

Here are some quick tips for making parenting just a little less stressful!

1-Give Yourself a Break

Yes…you…give yourself a break. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Allow yourself time to rest. Do something you enjoy! Practice Self-Care! Get enough sleep! Do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself, so you can better take care of your loved ones.

You can even try this self-care challenge to get you motivated to do something for yourself! You are important too!

Journaling is another great way to practice self-care! Here is my favorite journal and, of course, it’s the one I developed! This is the journal I created with self-care in mind! There are journal prompts, spaces for self-exploration, and more! Be sure to check it out!

2-Play

Yes. Play! Enjoy time with your child or children! The laundry can wait until later today or tomorrow! Those dishes will still be there! Trust me, as a mom/step-mom of seven with only one kid left at home–the time goes WAY TOO FAST!

Have fun! Be silly! Take mini-adventures at home, the local park, or when traveling! Enjoy the time you have with your family!

3-Eat Well

You know that nutrition is important for your children, but it’s important for you too! Eat more than one meal a day! Snack when you are hungry, don’t starve until the next meal or snack just because you are bored.

Make healthy eating choices and teach your kids to make healthy eating choices! Splurge on the ice cream or other treats periodically, but make sure that fruits and veggies are part of your daily routine.

Drink more water too!

4-Be Consistent

Be consistent with your children. It may be difficult at first, but it is definitely worth it in the long run!

When you are consistent, your children know what to expect from you and know that you mean what you say. This leads to less bickering, complaints, and defiance because they know you will be consistent and follow through on whatever you say (fun things and consequences)! And there is less stress when there is less complaining!

5-Utilize Your Social Support Network

Spend time with other adults in your life. Whether it is a spouse, friend, or coworker, adult-time is important. We love our children, but we have to have time away to spend with other adults! Paw Patrol, Baby Bum, and all their friends can only go so far–we need adult support too!

Have a lunch date. Go to the drive-in and see a movie. Talk and walk at a local nature preserve or river walk. Go for ice cream without the kids. Do something without the kids around to invest in your social support network. You can vent about your stressors or just spend time enjoying something together. The important part is that you are taking care of yourself so you can take care of your family!
