What You Need to Know about the Axe House in Gatlinburg

If you are looking for a unique date night idea or an afternoon of family fun, check out the Axe House in Gatlinburg!

Axe throwing is something I had never considered. However, when looking for fun activities to do with my husband in Gatlinburg, I thought this would be a fun surprise for my husband! It was something completely different than we had ever done before and it ended up being a whole lot of fun!!

Location

The Axe House is located approximately halfway through the Gatlinburg strip.

It’s on the second floor of the building with the Chocolate Monkey sweets shop. We were lucky enough to have the throwing late closest to the windows, so we had a great view while in between throws!

The entry door is located to the side of the Chocolate Monkey and it was well marked.

You do have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the Axe House. I did not see an elevator or any other way to get to the second floor without using the stairs. If stairs are not an option for you, you may want to call first to see if alternative methods are available.

When you enter Axe House, the check-in desk is right in front of you. The axe throwing stalls are located to the left of the check-in and a small gift shop area is located to the right.

What to Expect

Here’s what you need to know! First, we start with the most important part of axe throwing–SAFETY!

Safety First!

There are several safety guidelines around the facility and it felt very safe. The owner gave instructions before we began and made sure everyone followed the rules.

The area was one large room separated into several throwing lanes. Buckets full of various axes were located at the end of each of the lanes. There was a wide variety of axes available, varying in weight and style. We enjoyed being able to switch out and find the weight that we each liked best.

Each lane had its own target that was marked with numbers so you could keep score.

Each lane was decorated for each holiday and/or season. As you can see, when went in the spring so they were decorated for Easter!

Scoring

As I mentioned previously, the targets are numbered (1, 2, 3, 4, 6) so you can keep score if you choose to!

Scoring sheets are provided at the end of each throwing stall.

My husband and I chose to keep the score at some points during our hour and we just threw for the fun of it at other times.

Night Time Bonus

As the evening progressed, the owner turned on black lights to give a new effect to our targets. It was fun to be able to play with the targets lit up and in regular light.

The black light was strong enough to make the targets glow. However, it was not overpowering. My husband has an eye injury where he cannot tolerate black lights and he was still able to play without any issues!

Additional things available

Besides axe throwing, there were a few other things available. They had some bottled drinks for sale, as well as a small gift shop area.

Our Experience

Like I said in the beginning, I had never considered something like axe throwing before. I ran across it while looking for fun activities and Gatlinburg and thought my husband would enjoy it, so we tried it!

He had a great time and I enjoyed it as well.

I am far from athletic and have no depth perception, so I was happy to simply hit the wall in front of me. However, by the end, I even hit the bullseye a couple of times!

I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a fun date night idea or want to have some fun with your teens! Our teens had not arrived in Gatlinburg yet, so they didn’t get to join us for axe throwing this time.
